I craft copy that communicates company value through clear alerts. I designed the alerts for Swing's design system and collaborated with product to strategically implement.
Swing Education is a marketplace platform for substitute teachers to find jobs at local K-12 schools.
I created the alerts for Swing's design system by simplifying the alerts down to four variations. These four variations of alerts use tertiary colors and icons to help users quickly understand the tone of the alert.

Oftentimes, the problem when designing alerts is that users are confused or missing key information. I review common user questions and data about undesired behaviors to better understand exactly what the misconception is and how we can proactively solve it.
The biggest part of iteration is balancing clarity, conciseness, and brand tone. I iterate on copy by starting with lengthier copy and slowly removing and rephrasing to shorten. I communicate the company or features value when relevant. I gather feedback on copy options from internal teams and end users.
Once shipped, I monitor it's impact to see if an alert has had the intended effect, and adjust as needed.
Last-minute cancellations are a particularly painful experience for school administrators. In our previous flow, we didn't communicate the definition and impact of canceling last minute.
Two conditional alerts for requests that starts within 12 hours: One that appears on the the sign up modal, and another that appears on the cancellation modal.
These changes lead, along with other initiatves lead to an overall decrease in the number of last minute cancellations. year over year.

Prospective substitute teachers were confused about their status and processing time during onboarding.
Simplified alert copy that clear states the user's status, and communicates the expected wait time.
Improved clarity about task status and expectations about processing time lead to a decrease in support tickets.
First live iteration
Second live iteration
To help schools fill more of their requested days, we introduced a feature that auto-adjusts the start date daily instead of canceling the request. We needed to clearly communicate this change in platform behavior to schools.
An alert on the request details and a badge on the index so that school administrators can quickly find substitute teacher requests that are being auto-adjusted, and clearly understand what that means.
Auto-adjusting the start date lead to a 0.6% in net revenue nationally, with a 1.7% increase in New Jersey alone. The alerts prevented a spike in support tickets post launch, and served as the only front-end change for this feature.

Schools expressed wanting confirmation that their request had been posted and that subs were actively being notified.
An alert that appears on the request details page after a school administrator creates a request for a substitute teacher.
This was a quality of life improvement that lead to a smoother experience for school administrators.
