As the lead UX designer on this project, I developed a review strategy and design that led to a 30% company-wide increase of admins leaving reviews for subs, and a 10% increase in positive sub reviews.
Swing Education is a marketplace platform for substitute teachers to find jobs at local K-12 schools.
For this project, understanding the problem started with understanding our current metrics around review submission and analyzing the impact of past initiatives. I quickly determined that telling admins "why" they needed to leave a review wouldn't have the impact we were hoping for. Instead, we needed to make the reviews simpler, quicker, and easier to find.
I completed competitive research for this feature by looking at how competitors and other industry leaders structure their review flows and entry points.
Once designs were close to finalized, a key component of this project, was to work alongside engineers to determinehow we could scope the work to ship quickly and maximize impact. I developed a three phase approach that we shipped across two weeks. This allowed us to monitor user behavior in production and best determine the impact of each change.
Once shipped, I monitored admin engagement in the feature through reporting and Fullstory sessions. This led to a few iterations including experimenting with button copy to improve clarity.
In the first month after launch, there was notable impact toward achieving the company-wide KPI of improving the review rate for subs.
The company hit an all-time high of number of unique admins leaving reviews
The overall number of reviews for subs increased by over 30%
The percentage of positive reviews increased by over 10%
The previous entry point was a bit muted, and didn't give much insight into what the review flow would entail. It also required admins to leave detailed reviews for positive, neutral, and negative reviews.
I brought the first question of the review flow onto the request card. This created a quick entry point, and reduced the number of clicks to leave a review. I also made the additional details optional for positive reviews.
This change brought a visual emphasis to the review question and provided a quick entry point into the flow. It also reduced the number of clicks to submit a review.

Submitting a review in two clicks
Many school administrators shared that "no news is good news." They also shared that once they've left a review, the rating for a specific sub rarely changed.
A one-click repeat review feature that allows admins to confirm or change their review when past review data for a sub exists. If no data exists, the quick review UI shows.
This change allowed admins to leave a review in just one click, reducing the time and effort it takes to provide reviews for subs.
